JERN’s founding editors bring complementary expertise in cognitive neuroscience, bilingualism, language learning, aging, and experience-related change.

John G. Grundy is a cognitive neuroscientist whose work examines how language experience, aging, and other sustained experiences shape cognitive control, neural efficiency, and cognitive reserve.
As Editor-in-Chief, he is responsible for the journal’s scientific direction, editorial standards, and final publication decisions.

Febriana Grundy is an applied linguist whose work focuses on bilingualism, language learning, education, and how linguistic experience shapes cognition and communication.
As Deputy Editor, she supports editorial review, journal operations, policy development, and the coordination of manuscripts across the publication process.
JERN maintains clear separation between editorial evaluation and financial considerations. Article processing charges are assessed only after acceptance and do not influence editorial decisions.
Decisions are based on the manuscript’s scientific contribution, evidence, transparency, and relevance to JERN.
Editors recuse themselves when personal, professional, or financial relationships could compromise impartial judgment.
Reviewers and handling editors are selected for relevant expertise and are expected to provide constructive, evidence-based evaluation.
JERN is assembling an interdisciplinary Editorial Board representing the major domains, methods, and populations relevant to experience-related neuroplasticity.
